Welcome To Smithville Baptist Church

You are God’s workmanship, created in Christ to do good works! We’ll help you discover the life of high adventure when you surrender all to Jesus.

Our mission and vision at SBC is to transform the hearts of people into a close and personal relationship with Jesus where they know Him as Lord, King and Savior. We believe in physical, emotional and spiritual regeneration of the believer the instant a person accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior. We want to prepare every believer to spread the Gospel to all nations, baptizing them. We believe everyday you step foot outside, you are on the mission field. Go Make Disciples!

What We Believe.

divider
* Because God is perfect, His Word is perfect as well.
* There is one God: perfect, infinite and eternal, holy, loving, and just. He exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, co-existent, co-equal, and co-eternal. The Father is not the Son nor the Son the Father or the Holy Spirit, but all three are the one true God.
* Man is born broken, thanks to the sin that has infected us since Adam and Eve. We are totally depraved and in need of God’s grace. That’s the bad news. The good news is that Jesus has made a way for us to be saved from our sin.
* The Holy Spirit enables us to trust in Jesus for salvation.

* The church is the body of believers in Jesus Christ worldwide. After Jesus’ resurrection, He gave a job to His followers. This job is called the “Great Commission.” Here’s what He said: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).

God Sees Man’s Need for Relationship (2:18) 1. Man was made for relationship with God 3. God Sees Mankind’s Absence Because of Sin (3:8) 1. Man continues to hide from God 4. Do right…that is the first line of defense 2. Master yourself 1. You do this by staying in fellowship with God 6. God Sees Our Righteous Actions Too (6:9,22) (Job 1:1) 1. Noah was righteous and blameless 2. Job was righteous (blameless & upright) (Job 1:1) 7. God Sees The World In Which We Live (6:5) 1. Sin is progressive 8. God is not playing a cosmic game of hide and seek. We cannot hide from God and He will not hide from us. God sees us, loves us, and seeks us. John Ortberg notes that, “God doesn’t just allow Adam to hide. God comes searching for him. God takes the initiative to restore their closeness, even though Adam is the one withholding himself. After He finishes counting to one hundred, God says, “I’ll be IT.” Throughout the opening chapters of Genesis, God sees His creation and is ready to love, forgive, reconcile and restore mankind. Hiding from God does not insulate us from Him. To hide places ourselves in a place of isolation, guilt, shame, and defeat. Sin is progressive. The more we bury it or ignore it, the more strongly it grips our life. Sin started with an act of rebellion in the Garden of Eden, grew to murder in Gen. 4, and culminated with the destruction of mankind because “Genesis 6:5 says that, “the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” God not only notices our failure and sin but takes note when we do what is right. God saw Noah’s righteousness and this produced “favor in the eyes of the Lord.” In Job 1, God so recognized Job’s faithfulness that He pointed out Job’s righteousness to Satan. Both Noah and Job had this in common, they walked with God. The key to victoriously lies in the daily walk with God, talking with Him, worshipping Him, and obeying Him. The beauty of both the flood narrative and Job’s life is that when God takes note of our faithful walk with Him, He will redeem the circumstances we face, “to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness (Is. 61:3).”
